Journal History

The first issue of the Magazine Materials of Electronics Engineering was published in 1998. The initiative of publishing a magazine in the field of materials science and technology of electronics was put forward by the Moscow State Institute of Steel and Alloys (Russian abbreviation MISiS), Russia’s leading institute for materials science which was the first to train electronics engineers with advanced knowledge of materials science. The Russian Ministry of Common and Higher Education supported that initiative and decided to establish a new magazine, Materials of Electronics Engineering, within the News of Higher Education series to be published by MISiS.

Higher education, academic and industry branch institutions received a printed media for publishing their works in the field of materials science and technology of semiconductor, dielectric and metallic materials used in electronics.

The first Editor-in-Chief of the Magazine was the brilliant scientist in the field of materials science Semyon Samuilovich Gorelik who was the inspiring and driving force of the establishment and publishing of the magazine and remained in that position from 1998 to 2007. He did very much to ensure that the magazine contained articles of the highest scientific level and importance. The magazine also received valuable help and support during its establishment from Yuri Sergeevich Karabasov who then was the Rector of MISiS.

The first members of the Magazine’s Editorial Board were leading experts in the field of materials science and technology of semiconductor and dielectric materials and devices based thereupon, representing academic, higher education and industrial science. Many members of the first Editorial Board still cooperate with the Magazine.

The Editorial Board had sections addressing the following fields of knowledge:

  • Materials science and technology (of semiconductor, dielectric and magnetic materials);
  • Multilayered compositions, structure and properties of interfaces;
  • Physical properties and their study;
  • Structure of real crystals, research methods and control of properties;
  • Simulation of processes and Materials of Electronics Engineering;
  • Methodical issues of higher education in the field of electronics;
  • Miscellaneous (information, referee reports etc.).

The Magazine developed together with respective fields of science and technology. New sections were added such as Atomic Structure and Structural Study Methods and Nanomaterials and Nanotechnologies. The Magazine regularly publishes selected works of conferences addressing respective topics: The Russian international conference on physics, materials science and physicochemical fundamentals of the technology of doped silicon crystals and device structures based thereon, as well as the international conference for physics of crystals, Crystals Physics of the 21st Century, devoted to the memory of M.P. Shaskolskaya.

Over these years the Magazine received recognition among scientists of Russia and other states and is included into the Higher Attestation Committee’s list for publishing results of Dr.Sci. theses. It has a high reference index. It has published research results of scientific teams from many educational institutions of Russia, former CIS (Byelarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan etc.) and other states (Israel, Jordan, Germany etc.). The Magazine provides a comprehensive overview of works conducted in academic and industrial institutions in the field of materials science for micro- and nanoelectronics.

We are committed to promptly publish articles, information on cooperation experience between respective scientific chairs and industrial institutions, reviews of separate issues, technical novelties, information on scientific meetings and seminars, most interesting monographs and theses as well as referee reports on educational literature.

The Magazine also reflects common issues of higher education, training experience of engineers, bachelors and masters of science under new conditions, their postgraduate activity, international experience of managing higher education in the field of electronics materials, forms of cooperation between education institutions and industry as well as practical use of research conducted in higher education institutions.

The Editorial Board of the Magazine shall always keep the high level of requirements to works published in the magazine which was initially set up by S.S. Gorelik and extend the range of topics in the materials science and technology of advanced materials in accordance with new development trends of micro- and nanoelectronics.

Since 2011 part of the articles published in the Magazine are translated into English and published in Russian Microelectronics.
